Redefining Warfare in our Cyber World
The tension in Ukraine is running high and the landscape of conflict today is not only on the battleground but also involves companies that are in critical infrastructure sectors. These include energy, supply chain, healthcare, transportation, and banking businesses.
As the situation overseas becomes increasingly more hostile, companies in the sectors previously mentioned should be on high alert and anticipate a wave of cyberattacks. Because of historical threats that are related to this specific geopolitical conflict, there is an expectation that there will likely be cyberattacks against many private sector companies and infrastructure providers located outside of Ukraine.
In the last few years, state actors have become bolder in hiring cyber threat actors to perform attacks on adversaries to destroy their economies. This has resulted in various cyberwar tactics being strategically used with traditional, kinetic warfare. This is why it is called “hybrid warfare”.
It’s becoming clear that public and private sector organizations will need to be on high alert and ready for more global cyber-attacks. As warnings continue to increase, they should not be taken lightly and must resonate with organizations worldwide, especially those that are in the critical infrastructure sectors.
Identifying the Signs
It’s essential to use early signs that cyber intelligence can give you to protect your executives and employees. All of them. To do this you should begin by asking yourself the following questions:
- Do all of your employees and executives know about the high risk of cyber attacks against private organizations?
- Is your organization aware of its current vulnerabilities and digital risk profile? This includes the exposed data related to all of your employees, executives, and partners that can be weaponized to cause financial or reputational harm to your organization.
- Does your company monitor, detect, and respond to all sensitive exposures that are related to your employees and executives?
Having a DRPS (Digital Risk Protection Service) is key to keeping your executives and employees safe. It has been said that physical and cyber security will converge and that day has come.
