Early Life
He was interested in sports from his school days. He played Basketball on a National level Sub-Junior Category and won many awards for that.
Despite his inclination towards acting, he pursued a career in Medical. He cleared the CPMT Entrance Exam and joined Haridwar Ayurvedic Medical College and Research Centre. Vineet topped in his college and went on to complete his MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Ayurveda from Shri Ayurved Mahavidyalaya in Nagpur.
He didn’t get any moral support from his parents to pursue his passion in acting except his younger brother and Sister. While he was continuing his education at Nagpur, he would come to Mumbai and search for work.

His journey started as he won the finals of a talent hunt for actors. Director Mahesh Manjrekaar spotted him and gave him a role in Sanjay Dutt starrer film “Pitaah” in 2002. This film did very poorly at the box office.
After the initial failure, Vineet struggled to get any good roles in films. He started as an assistant/associate Director and assisted Mahesh Majrekar in films like Viruddh and Deh in 2005 and 2007 respectively. He even worked in Bhojpuri and Doordarshan serials.
Vineet worked in Bhojpuri movies like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Isaaq. In 2010, he worked in Mahesh Manjrekar’s bilingual movie City of Gold.

Vineet Kumar’s next film was Gangs of Wasseypur by director Anurag Kashyap in 2012. Vineet played the role of Danish Khan in both parts of the film. It turned out to be a turning point in his career.
After success of Gangs of Wasseypur, he got challenging roles in two films Ugly and Bombay Talkies both in 2013. Both the movies were directed by Anurag Kashyap.

He began writing Mukkabaaz, learning from his own experience as a player. Vineet closely watched the story of hockey legend Mohammad Shahid.
